EVENT HORIZON
(2023)
composed for Kling Klang Klong, commissioned Himmel unter Berlin
Event Horizon was composed for the Berlin-based collective Kling Klang Klong and commissioned by Himmel unter Berlin.
The sound for the piece explores the sung voice as a locus for metaphors of space and time. Tracing a line through vocal musical history, the piece combines classical ornamentation with technological transformation to produce hybrid voices- sounds which point both forward and backwards through time. Over the course of the installation, the voice is presented through song, as a state, and finally, as information, with text fragmenting and dissolving into nothingness.
The piece takes the form of a 12.1 surround installation, and features the voice of Tyler Bouque. It can also be heard in stereo and is optionally accompanied by a light installation.
